Project for Public Spaces

The Project for Public Spaces, a non-governmental and non-profit organization elaborating and initiating the design of public spaces, recently held two workshops in Budapest. They represent a peculiar role of the planner: that of the animator and facilitator of participatory design processes. A few weeks aqgo I visited them in their fancy Broadway office.

Steam

A large part of New York’s buildings is heated with steam. Despite the mayor’s PlaNYC30 plan, it is quite difficult to imagine a greener New York in the near future. We have kept open our windows all through the winter; it is now Mid-May, and we’re still heating the Madison street. To enhance my breathing while sleeping, ie. to humidify the air, I place a metal container on the top of the radiator. The evaporating water drew these flowers on the bottom of the container.
